Chair, Vallejo-PB Participatory Budgeting (2017-18)

Why do you believe innovations in participatory democracy are important?
To increase and engage community participation in fiscal matters of their city; To build/strengthen democracy for all to include immigrants, minorities, low-income and marginalized communities (Diversity). To improve civic pride and decision making on municipal matters that affect citizens thro’ P-A-R-T-I-C-I-P-A-T-I-O-N.

What do you hope to see at the 2018 Innovations in Participatory Democracy Conference?

Shared PB experiences of other communities across the US;
Understanding the Challenges and Solutions to breaking the status-quo in government by giving people a choice to use significant annual budget of their city for projects they need in their part of town. A shared drumbeat of improving democracy and participation in civic issues across all ages, genders, religions, economies, educational and business backgrounds without fear or apathy.

    Sounds encouraging…. we are neighbors with Vallejo, CA but it took this conference review to realize its value to the citizen by giving a voice to the community.
