Director and Founder | Center for Wise Democracy

Jim Rough is the Director and Founder of the Center for Wise Democracy (www.WiseDemocracy.org) and author of the book, “Society’s Breakthrough! Releasing Essential Wisdom and Virtue in All the People.” As a consultant in the 1980’s Jim developed “Dynamic Facilitation,” a way to help diverse people achieve unity and solve impossible-seeming problems through creative shifts. In 1993 developed the “Wisdom Council Process,” which allows Dynamic Facilitation to work at large scale, supporting the people of large systems to work together as “We the People.” Now the Wisdom Council Process has been adopted into the constitutions of two states of Austria. And it is central to “The ToBe Project” for establishing a global “We the People.”

Why do you believe innovations in participatory democracy are important?

Participative Democracy is essential for solving today’s intractable problems at all levels … local, national and global.

What do you hope to see at the 2018 Innovations in Participatory Democracy Conference?

At the Center for Wise Democracy we offer a radically powerful, yet complementary approach for facilitating “the people” to become engaged and solve public issues. I’m hoping to connect with people deeply concerned about the viability of our current public institutions, those seeking system transformation as well as those seeking improvements in citizen participation.
