Matt Harder

Matt spent the last ten years trying to help the environment working in sustainable agriculture and renewable energy. Last year he shifted his focus to what he sees as the most urgent issue in America today: the health of democracy. At D21 he helps fill the gap between decision makers and the public, leading to more participatory and equitable governance.

Why do you believe innovations in participatory democracy are important?

“We are 21st-century citizens, doing our very, very best to interact with 19th century-designed institutions that are based on an information technology of the 15th century.” – Pia Mancini

What do you hope to see at the 2018 Innovations in Participatory Democracy Conference?

I hope to see ideas befitting a public eager for more opportunities to contribute their thoughts, ideas, skills, networks, time, sweat, and love to bringing their democracy back to it’s core principles: of the people, by the people, and for the people.
