Bitsy crafts meaningful data experiences that facilitate well-informed decisions. She supports PBP’s mission with the design and development of a, a civic engagement tool that serves the needs of the Participatory Budgeting community. Bitsy comes to PBP after a decade in the market research industry where she was recognized as a leader in audience-focused data communication. She is thrilled to leverage her experience with data visualization and research communication strategy to building a more equitable democracy. When not occupied with her work as a data practitioner she is an artist and climate activist that creates genetically diverse, resilient ecosystems using indigenous farming and plant breeding techniques.

Why do you believe innovations in participatory democracy are important?

I want to live in a world where black trans sex workers live safely without fear, and I believe that participatory democracy is a path to realize that future.

What do you hope to see at the 2018 Innovations in Participatory Democracy Conference?

I would like to walk away with a deeper understanding of how we define success as a movement. What should participatory democracy look like in five, fifteen, and a hundred and fifty years, and how do we intend to get there?
